TRENDS IN OLD-AGE DISABILITY

TRENDS is a network of researchers working to accelerate scientific understanding of old-age disability and dementia trends.

The network has explored the causes and consequences of past, current, and future disability and dementia trends. TRENDS has also reviewed findings from new studies, reconciling differences as needed across studies and populations in the U.S. and abroad. TRENDS has offered network members a collegial environment that facilitates open discussion of salient issues and cutting-edge research.

Latest disability trends are available through a series of online dashboards and a companion chartbook from the National Health and Aging Trends Study. 

Annual TRENDS Workshop

From 2006-2023, the TRENDS Network held an annual workshop, typically in Ann Arbor. Starting in 2024, the network has sponsored regular webinars. Beginning in 2026, TRENDS has hosted an annual lecture in honor of the network’s founder Robert F. “Bob” Schoeni, PhD. that highlights research by an early career scholar.
